ashsexual - Day Off

Despite the sun streaming in through the bedroom's lone window, Ash curled up closer to her pillow. It was her day off and she was trying her best to sleep in for as long as possible.

Unfortunately, her body usually only give her an hour leeway between her usual sleep scedule and she grumbles as she finally wakes up.

But hey, it's not all bad...

The other half of the bed is currently unoccupied. She hasn't missed Sheila by much, though.

When Ash decides to leave her room, she'll find a freshly showered Sheila perched on the arm of the sofa with a piece of toast in her mouth, her hair drying on its own accord as she watches the television. There's a plate of toast sitting on the coffee table, accompanied by a mug of coffee. (There's more in the pot on the kitchen counter.)

Ash wanders out into the living room, trying her best not to scratch her head with her metal hand (it snags on her hair) and taking in the smell of coffee. She musters up a little smile when she sees Sheila. "Good morning to you too, then..."

Sheila gives her a smile, hopping from her perch with toast in hand. "Would be rude to wake thee up, I thought. I decided to wait out here. Good morning."

She offers the piece of toast to her. "I used the toasting device just as instructed. It is quite easy to manage! The bread did not burn this time."

Ash takes the toast and inspects it. Nope...not burned. "Thanks babe. Looks like you're picking this modern age stuff up pretty quick."

She then kisses Sheila on the forehead before she begins eating the piece of toast handed to her and wandering into the kitchen for coffee.

"Thou art the best teacher I could ever hope for," she replies, biting back a smug grin the best she can.

When Ash heads for kitchen, she simply picks another piece of toast up from the plate and plops onto the couch, glancing over at the other room to check on her.

Ash snorts a little as she pours some coffee into a cup. "Thanks babe, but I'm sure you can do better."

She adds some sugar and milk to her coffee before walking into the living room and sitting down beside Sheila on the couch.

That makes her giggle.

She curls up against Ash's side when she joins her on the sofa, nibbling on her toast. "Thou art not needed at work today," she says. "Unless ye plan on leaving me late in the day?"

"Nope, no work today," Ash says, blowing on her coffee before taking a sip. She then wraps an arm around Sheila. "And if they call me in for any reason besides Deadites attacking the store, I'm just telling them I'm sick."

Sheila smiles, resting her head in the crook of Ash's neck. "Wonderful plan, m'lady," she mumbles, giving her a nuzzle.

Ash smiles a little as Sheila nuzzles up against her. "So...you have anything you want to do today?"

"Hm." She lets out a sigh, giving her toast a few thoughtful nibbles.

"Nay, m'lady," she finally says. "There art too many things to choose from... surely we cannot accomplish everything in a day's time."

"No, probably not," she says, putting her coffee on the table and going for another piece of toast. "I wish it could be though..."

"Maybe ye can teach me more things?" she suggests. "More... modern things. So that I may tend to thee better, m'lady."

Ash winces a little at the phrase 'tend to thee'. She doesn't want Sheila to act like she has to be her servant or anything. "Well, what do you want to know? Or rather, what have we already covered?"

She sits up and starts counting things off on her hand, thinking of the list as she goes. "The telephone... the toasting device... the coffee machine... the television box... the shower... the wash basins..."

Ash nods off each one, remembering how many of them went down. Some more eventful than others. "We haven't covered the microwave yet?"

"I do not believe so, m'lady," she replies, shaking her head. "Perhaps ye mentioned it in passing once or twice?"

"Well yeah. It's taking up counter space..."

She takes another sip of her coffee. "I guess I know what we're covering today then."

"One uses a... microwave? As a means of preparing food, yes?" Give her a gold star. She's retaining.

"Mmmhmm," Ash says with a nod. She'll reward that retention later. "Usually when you're in a hurry or something is prepackaged."

"Fascinating," she murmurs, trying to grasp the concept. She leans forward in her seat, reaching for her own mug of coffee. She makes a slight face when she sips at it; she had put too much milk in it earlier, but she wasn't going to complain.

"What of this prepackaging?"

"Prepackaging is pre-made food," she says, taking a long sip of her coffee before putting the cup back down. "You buy it, store it until you want it, open up the package, and then follow the instructions on the package on how to prepare it."

Such an eloquent explanation, she knows.

"Surely food that sits will spoil," she replies, quirking an eyebrow. "What manner of magic is this?"

"Preservatives and refrigeration, babe," she says, jerking her metal thumb in the direction of the refrigerator.

"Fascinating!" she repeats, smiling.
